The Aurora
06 June - Welcome to The Aurora

On Friday, June 2nd, we welcomed neighbours and community partners to an open house at the newest supportive housing site we operate, The Aurora, in Central Saanich. Over the course of the day, we hosted well over 100 individuals who came to see the beautiful new building, learn more about supportive housing, and have the chance to ask questions and offer feedback to staff.

Among those in attendance were members of Central Saanich City Council and representatives from other departments in the District. We also welcomed many different community partners, including BC Housing, who purchased and opened the building, Tsawout First Nation, local church groups, and community organizations, who took the opportunity to tour the new building as well as connect with Pacifica Housing staff. Most impressive, was the large amount of neighbours who took the time to drop by and educate themselves on what this new supportive housing site will include, and how they can support The Aurora’s integration into the community.

We are very excited about what this new housing option will mean for the District of Central Saanich – up to 39 supportive homes including studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom apartments, with staffing onsite 24/7. All units have a bathroom and a kitchen, and provide housing with a person-centered approach that meets people where they are to help them thrive. Onsite supports will include Housing Support Workers, a Life Skills Worker and a Community Development Worker. Island Health has committed access to mobile primary care services, so that community health professionals will visit the building to see residents.

Pacifica Housing would like to thank everyone who attended the open house. While we are one of the largest non-profit housing providers on the Island, we are new to the District of Central Saanich, and therefore very much appreciated the chance to get a better understanding of the community’s concerns, as well as the opportunities in the area. We certainly look forward to building strong relationships with all our new neighbours, and the Central Saanich community!

A special thank you to all the Pacifica Housing staff who helped set up for the event as well as conduct the site tours.
